Is transparency kept?
Yes. AVIF supports transparency, including soft edges and shadows.
Is AVIF lossless like PNG?
Not here: it uses lossy compression to make files small. At high quality settings the difference is very hard to see.
Why does converting take a while?
AVIF is slow to create, a few seconds per image, but just as fast to view as any other format.
Should I use AVIF or WebP?
AVIF is usually smaller at the same quality. WebP is faster to create and supported by slightly older devices.
